It was a banner year for NEXT Canada at Montréal Startupfest, Canada’s largest annual technology and startup festival. This year, NEXT Canada and our alumni community won big at the fest. Highlights include:
NEXT Canada took to the main stage to announce the launch of our world-leading NextAI program in Montréal to be delivered in partnership with HEC Montréal. This is NEXT’s first expansion outside of Ontario. Read more
NEXT Pitch Competitions
Every year NEXT Canada hosts a Young Entrepreneur Pitch competition, awarding an exclusive advance spot in the upcoming Next 36 cohort. The winner of this year’s prize is Haman Mamdouhi, Founder of Health-Bridge.
This year we also added a second pitch competition, offering the entrepreneur with the best AI pitch a spot in the inaugural NextAI Montréal cohort. The winner of the NextAI Top Startup Award is Marwa Ben Aissa, Founder of Shoofping.
Two ventures in our 2018 cohorts also won big at the festival. NextAI venture Liscena took home the Diagram Ventures Fintech Award and Next 36 venture SucSeed won the Best Onstage Pitch Award. See the full winner’s circle
Fundica Roadshow’s finals also coincided with this year’s festival with 11 finalists from the national competitions gathering in Montréal to make their ultimate pitch. The judges crowned three companies the winners, including Lumen5, co-founded by Next 36 alum, Michael Cheng and current Next Founders venture FleetOps. Each of the ventures took home $215K in funding along with a package of partner perks. Read more
