Mariam Awara

University of Calgary, Electrical Engineering, 2018

Mariam Awara is an Electrical and Computer Engineering student at the University of Calgary, but more importantly, she is a maker. She values the interconnection of knowledge and of the human experience, and is passionate about using technology to solve problems that would rewrite the stories of the human experience. Mariam has been a maker since the age of 13, founding community initiatives and groups that primarily focused on community development, women’s rights and international development. Now, Mariam uses her engineering technical skills to build assistive learning technologies and to design community programs inspired by the pillars of global engineering and development.
