Gordie Best

Mechanical Engineering, Queen's University, 2013

Gordie graduated from Queen's University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has eight years of entrepreneurial experience.  At 12 years old, Gordie started the company “Best Skis and Boards” which provides ski and snowboard tuning services in the Ottawa region.  While at Queen’s, he has managed Clark Hall Pub, the first student-owned and operated bar in Canada, with an annual operating revenue of over $280,000.  An active member of the Faculty of Engineering, Gordie has coordinated Orientation week for 600 incoming students, was the Treasurer of the Queen's Engineering Conference on Industry Resources, and was the Grease Pole Coordinator, responsible for managing a budget of $40,000.  Gordie has worked for Taggart Construction providing  support to large-scale engineering and infrastructure projects and was part of the Technology Engineering and Management program providing business advice to Shell Canada.  As a Dean’s Scholar and with a long list of academic awards, Gordie has never been shy to take a risk or get involved. Gordie has been driven to provide excellence and has learned that success is dependent upon having happy clients, happy staff and happy suppliers.  Gordie is an entrepreneur to the core and ready for his next challenge.
